And the winner for longest time between posts is...
Thanks to Chris I had a little money to spend on new music. Went in with no real idea what I was after, and managed to find two imports I'm very happy with. Not sure if anyone knows about Adele. If you don't, you should. She has her second album "21", coming out 2/22. But, in the mean time I found an itunes exclusive EP, that has some very stripped down versions of a few songs off her debut album "19". She has the most soulful voice I've ever heard. The best description I've heard is "her voice is warm, like hot chocolate".
This is off the new album. Some of her stuff is a little poppy for my tastes, but, her voice is just so incredible. For me, her version of Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love", is as good as it gets.
The other, speaking of old Bob, is The Tallest Man On Earth. His real name is Kristian Matsson, and he's from Sweden. He often draws comparisons to an early Bob Dylan. It's mostly him and his guitar, doing very lyrical songs. I picked up his latest album "The Wild Hunt" and EP "Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird" Both are outstanding. "Little River" is my favorite song right now. I have a feeling that's going to change about a hundred times.
Both of these artists are great weekend morning music. Reading the paper with a cup of coffee. I hope y'all enjoy.
Thanks for sharing Drew. I've heard some of Adele's stuff before. I agree what a wonderful voice she has. The song you've posted is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe comparisons of Kristian to early Bob are well deserved. You can certainly tell his influence on Kristian's music.
A few things I forgot. The Adele EP is "iTunes Live From Soho" Also, I thought the titles would show up when I named them. The Adele song is "Rolling in the Deep" and the TMOE song is "Little River".
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Drew. I love this Adele song. I'm definitely checking out more from both of these artists.
ReplyDeleteYeah! I think her voice if more like dark chocolate with a pinch of cayenne--but hot chocolate is pretty close :). Thanks for reminding me how much I like this song.
ReplyDeleteI've been loving a few other new artists with similar vocal style: Trixie Whitney from Black Dub ("Love Lives" and "Surely" showcase her pipes really well; I also love "I Believe in You" by them, but it's a bit poppy) and Sharon Van Etten (I like "Love More" and"One Day"). Neither one has nearly the force and power of Adele though!
Thanks Drew! And thanks Chris, for sharing the gift of music!
Adele's album "21" can be heard in it's entirety (for free!) @ NPR's first listen: http://www.hugecurlingsavings.com/catalogoc625a.html/409700830418
ReplyDelete"Rolling in the Deep" was the first single from this album which is released Feb 22. Normally you can only hear the album @ first listen until it's released, so if you're interested listen soon!
